How to Use Seasonal Events to Promote Your B&B

marketing a bed and breakfast Feb 14, 2025

If you’re starting a B&B or already running a B&B, one of the best ways to increase bookings is by making the most of seasonal events. Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, Easter, bank holidays, or Christmas, every event gives you a chance to attract more guests with themed offers, special experiences, and smart marketing.

A small touch—like a themed breakfast or a seasonal welcome treat—can make all the difference in creating a memorable stay. However, it’s also important to stay on the right side of the law when offering extras like alcohol or candles. I’ve included some important legal tips throughout to keep you compliant.

Here’s how you can use key events throughout the year to promote your bed and breakfast, boost occupancy, and keep guests coming back.

How to Write SEO-Friendly Blog Titles to Attract More B&B Guests

When writing blog posts to promote your B&B, it’s important to use keywords that potential guests are actually searching for. I’ve included suggested blog post titles for each seasonal event, designed to help attract more visitors to your website. These are based on common search terms like “Things to do in [Your Location] at Easter” or “Bonfire Night events near [Your Location]”, rather than generic titles. When creating your own blog posts, think about what your ideal guests would type into Google and tailor your titles accordingly.

February – Valentine’s Day & Romantic Getaways

๐Ÿ’ก How to attract more B&B guests:

  •  Offer a romantic getaway package with flowers, chocolates, and a welcome gift.
  •  Serve a Valentine’s breakfast special, like heart-shaped pancakes or chocolate-dipped strawberries.
  • Provide LED candles in the room to create a cosy atmosphere—real candles aren’t recommended in guest rooms due to fire safety risks. → Flameless LED Candles
  •  Promote midweek stays for couples looking for a quieter experience.

โš ๏ธ Legal Tip:

  • In the UK, you cannot provide alcohol (even complimentary champagne or Prosecco) unless you have a premises licence. Some B&B owners assume they can give alcohol away for free without a licence, but this isn’t  the case. Instead, offer a non-alcoholic sparkling drink or recommend local wine shops where guests can buy their own. More details in this blog post here → Do you need a licence to sell alcohol at your B&B

๐Ÿ“ข Marketing Tip:

  • Create a blog post or Pinterest and Instagram posts with romantic spots near your B&B to inspire couples to book. Use keywords like "romantic B&B stay," "couples retreat," and "Valentine’s getaway in [your location]".

A Quick Legal Reminder About Sharing Photos on Social Media

Social media is a great way to promote your B&B, showcase seasonal events, and support local businesses, but you must get permission before posting someone else’s photos.

โœ… Sharing to Your Stories – Using Instagram or Facebook’s built-in share feature to reshare a guest’s or local business’s post to your Stories is fine—it automatically credits the original poster.

โŒ Posting Someone Else’s Photo on Your Feed – Whether it’s a guest’s picture of your B&B or an image from a local event or business, you must get written permission first. Tagging them isn’t enough—the photo belongs to them, and using it without permission could violate copyright laws.

๐Ÿ’ก Best Practice: A DM is usually enough for social media if the person explicitly says "Yes, you can share this." Keep a screenshot as proof. If using the image on your website, blog, or marketing materials, it's best to get permission via email for extra security.

๐Ÿ“Œ When in doubt, resharing a post to your Stories is always the safest option!

Final Thoughts – Seasonal Marketing for Your B&B

If you’re thinking about starting a B&B or looking for new ways to increase bookings, using seasonal events is a great strategy. Even small, thoughtful touches—like a Valentine’s Day breakfast special or an autumn welcome basket—can make a big difference.

By adding seasonal extras and staying within legal requirements, you can boost income and keep guests coming back year after year.
